I bought a new computer with Vista 64 bit. I installed Vegas 8.0c and 8.1. Neither program will recognize my Cineform files. Plus I get a error message: Com Surrogate has stopped working?

View Full Version : Com Surrogate???? David Rice April 5th, 2009, 01:12 AM I bought a new computer with Vista 64 bit. I installed Vegas 8.0c and 8.1. Neither program will recognize my Cineform files. Plus I get a error message: Com Surrogate has stopped working? Help! David Newman April 5th, 2009, 09:42 AM That is an old Vista bug. It means you need to do a windows update, as you are missing a Mircosoft patch. As for CineForm support, you haven't said what software you have installed. David Rice April 5th, 2009, 10:04 AM I have windows Vista Home Premium Edition 64 Bit Patches and upgrades done. After a number of re-installs I have 8.0c working. However, in Windows Explorer only about 20% of the thumbnails were created for the Cineform Files. I'm using Microsoft Player. The file do play well. Just very few thumbnails. I can bring only the audio files into Vegas 8.1. 8.1 will not accept any Cineform Video files. David Newman April 5th, 2009, 10:08 AM 8.1 doesn't work with most third party AVIs, stick to 8.0c. David Rice April 5th, 2009, 10:47 AM What about the thumbnails in Explorer? Only about 20% are opening up? David Newman April 5th, 2009, 11:09 AM That points to you PC not being well. Contact support. Matt Vanecek April 5th, 2009, 01:17 PM Just to throw my $0.02 in, Cineform AVIs will not play in Windows Media Player 11 on Vista 64 Ultimate, having Prospect installed. The Cineform decoder throws an error. I hadn't seen a response on a thread I opened on this, so I'll probably fill out a Cineform trouble ticket this week... Thanks, Matt David Rice April 5th, 2009, 01:50 PM The latest Windows Media Player 11 plays the Cineform files fine on Vista 64. However, only a small portion of the Cineform Files will create Thumbnails in Vista Explorer File Manager. It creates thumbnails for only about 20% of the files. Vegas 8.0c seems to work fine in Vista 64, but 8.1 does not. I think 8.1 is "buggy". I hate dealing with new computers... |
