Hi all,

DV newbie here. Long time lurker, first time posting.

I recently bought a new PD-100A and am digging it immensely. It ships with a pretty decent Sony .7 wide angle conversion lens & hood. I'd love to get a few threaded filters for it, but I have no idea as to the size. It's quite a bit bigger than the 52mm at the camera side.

I've RTFM thoroughly, lurked groups aplenty and even stumped the excellent staff at B&H...to no avail. Spent many a late night scouring the John Beale site. Sony's broadcast website couldn't be more oblique as to specific facts about this lens.

Any good folks out there using the Sony .7 lens with round filters? I'm a bit short on green at the moment to spring for a drop in box & the square Tiffens or Century Optics.

One thing you might try is taking it to a local camera shop and see if they can tell you the size... or even a machine shop, as they'll have a micrometer and will be able to measure it for you.

Thanks for your reply. In the interim, I sent the question directly to John Beale, and while he didn't have the exact answer, he brought up a good point of which I hadn't really thought of.

The cost of a round filter in the 82mm range (that's the closest I've come to guessing the size) is fairly spendy to begin with. John mentioned that many of the wide angle adapter lens don't come threaded because of this (the Sony 0.7x however, does).

Long story short, I'm going to take your advice and swing by B&H with the adapter to at least get an answer to this maddening question...I'll post it when I find out. BUT, it seems like the smart money would be to go for a hood with drop-in rectangular filters, as the cost is not much of an deciding factor in that size range *and* greater flexibility, fewer vignetting problems (which I learned the hard way by stacking round Tiffens on the 52mm...D'OH!), etc.
