Been looking into matte boxes made by Chrosziel, Cavision, and the like, and I came across those manufactured by Petroff (http://www.petroff.ws).
Are Petroff matte boxes of good quality, and worth the price? They seem comparable to Chrosziel in terms of cost, at least for their high end 5x5 matte boxes.
I've never heard of them before but apparently Porta Brace's matte box cases are made with Petroff matte boxes and other brands in mind.

I could only find one other thread (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4273) on Petroff and that in which
Don Berube (3rd post from top) talks about Petroff.

Thanks for that, Rob. Not much I could find on Google either. Wonder what Don has to say about them nowadays, especially since they are offering 'new' matte box models, revised for the current market. From the diagrams, they look alright but I wish I could see actual photos of the products.

Petroff Matte Boxes are made in a suberb of Toronto Ontario and are a very limited production, but superb quality.
I had one hell of a time finding a web site for obvious reasons.

Good find... usually when they aren't listing prices they are quite
expensive. You know anything on that, Bryan?

They are a tad cheaper than the Chrosziel (in canada) and have the same features and quality of the Vocas. I know CinequipWhite sell them (a Toronto production supply house). Scot Winters may shed some light on the pricing. I tried to call him but he was out this afternoon.

The CinequipWhite site is www.cinequipwhite.com.
Only the major production houses carry them.
