Hey everyone

I finally got a hold on the HPG20 and put it on the back of the original VariCam. I made a short video of it on our blog - Add P2 to Your Tape Based VariCam | CineTechnica (http://blog.abelcine.com/2009/03/19/add-p2-to-your-tape-based-varicam/)

By the way, we just launch a new blog - CineTechnica (http://blog.abelcine.com)

Check it out and see what we've been up to.

Hi Andy,

If the Varicam is always outputting 60p through HD-SDI is the HPG20 recognising the flagged frames of the fps set on the camera?

What is the post ramifications of utilising the Varicam and HPG20 like this?

Hey Scott

Good question. The camera always puts out 720 60p with flags on the userbits. If your camera is set to 24p then the HPG20 will still record 720 60p (just like on the tape). The HPG20 can not remove the extra frames added, but it does record the flagging information. On the P2 card it's like shooting non-native 720p 24p in an HVX200. In post you'll need to remove the duplicate frames if you want to get back to native 24p. The Log and Transfer plugin in FCP will do this when the "Remove Duplicate Frames" check box is set. Also I believe DVfilm makes some software that will also handle this. I've heard that DVFilm will also make software that will remove native 24p from 1080 60i footage that has 2-3 pulldown.

Hope that better explains.
