Wondered if anyone had experience doing double system sound and synching the sound later? I have a potential project that would have interviews that would then have to eventually wind up on NTSC at 29.97. Any suggestions appreciated.

Double system sound is the way to go. Just match up the timing with the sound from the onboard mic. This is easiest with interviews (since things are said only once, unlike a film with many takes) and with concert videos (where you can narrow down the song and then the lyric.)

And a simple hand clap on camera/recorder once rolling will make syncing easy as cake.

yes.... I've used my korg mr-1000 with matched rode nt-1a mics or at987 shotguns for audio with my 5d2...... recording 1-bit then exporting 24 bit and for a 5 minute take the audio will only need to change speed to 100.1%

Great! Thanks much for the links. It looks like Slate has a "beep" flash when it closes. This seems useful, but I guess islate makes the sound sound the clapper is down. Juts wondering which one would be better. Any thoughts?

It might be worth it to also clap at the end also, given that no one is quite sure what the true frame rate of the 5D2 is. That gives you two impulse sounds to work with.

Do those who end up in NTSC land slow the footage down to 29.97? I'm not that post savvy so I'm not sure what the concerns of the editor would be going out to something for broadcast.

The difference is so small you can ignore it, except if you are worrying about running time.

In fact, if there is no dialog, you can slow it down by 0.8 - and get 24p. That's how I've been approaching it on a music store video I recently shot. ;)
