I found a 24 yr old VHS tape that has one of my school programs on it. I've already captured it using a VCR into my GL1 and captured it as DV.

Does anyone have any suggestions at trying to smooth the old vhs out a little. It's not horrible, but I just don't have any idea where to start.

Check out the trial version of Neat Video (http://www.neatvideo.com) and see if that helps with noise reduction.

Another trick is to copy your clip to a second track, set the upper track at 50% opacity, and shift it left or right by one pixel. And/or, a little gaussian blur.

These can help with apparent resolution & noise, of course color correction can help too.

Jeremiah, if you have an extra DVD, you might try burning it as is first, to see how it looks before trying to improve it. Watching it on you TV you will exactly what needs to be fixed. It might not be as bad as you think.

When you do the MPEG-2 render from Vegas, make sure to set it to 2-pass.
This will take longer but it should help to clean up the noisy areas.
