I am editing in both Final Cut Pro and iMovie '09 with video from my Canon HF100. The editing works beautifully.

The thing I need to do is learn how to export and then create Flash videos to put on the web. I have tried some tests, uploading to Youtube, but the results are not satisfying.

Also, rather then using Youtube...

I want to learn how to export from FCP or iMovie, transfer into a Flash file and then put on my own website.

I use the Vimeo Plus service - worth the $69 - and they have specs on the site.

I select export using QuickTime - whether I am in FCE or iMovie09 - and use the specs supplied by Vimeo on their FAQ.

I have the HF10 - but basically the same camera/files/size.

Exporting to flash is very tricky and 'reserved' for big bucks places.

Export as mpeg4/h.264 instead, look around on this forum for settings and a lot of other good info.

You can export H.264 files from iMovie or FCP, which is the best quality codec, but then you need to create a Flash player to play the movie. To do that you need the Flash application, or you need to use open-source alternatives which usually require some web-developer savvy. If you have the Flash application it's super easy, but the app is not cheap.

You can also use that same H.264 file to play on its own with HTML5 tags, but not all browsers support HMTL5 yet. But they will soon, including IE9. You should really write your code to support both, since all of Apple's mobile products do not support Flash, and more and more people seem to be getting tired of Flash because of how obnoxious so many ads are. I love Flash for video but I turn it off a lot when I'm browsing.
