What is the HDV SD 60 mode on my GY-HD100?

It is 480p60 (59.94 frames per second, not fields) compressed as mpeg2 at 19.2mbps just the way HDV is. Most NLEs don't understand this mode directly but you can capture it as m2t and then transcode it into an intermediate codec for editing.

Yes.
Also available is 576p50, the PAL equivalent, which gives more lines if the purpose is to uprez to 1280x720.

Before the DH200+ cameras came out, these were used to put slow motion into an HDV 24p project. (Still can be if shooting with the 100/110 camera.)

well it's true wide 960x480 or something along those lines, and it's 60p, not 60i. So it is better than DV to be sure. Expand/slow the frame rate down to 24p making the scene longer then uprezzing and you got pretty decent slow motion. Still better than most any other slow motion HDV in other similarly priced cameras.

Before I got the HD200 I have mixed sd 60P footage in moderate amounts with 720 24 P on the same project. Its not noticeable and inter-cut well.
