does anyone know if the lens for the xl-1 and xl-1s will be usable on the xl-2? i know they are moving to hd, but does that exclude the current lenses?
anyone have any predictions as to when it will be on the market?

Anyone that really knows is under a non-disclosure agreement and can't say. If I had to guess, I'd say it will be different.

canon along with sony and jvc decided on the 'hdv' format and will work out the details by september, and most likly will be going with that for the xl-2 since they have yet to produce a hd camera to compete with other hd camera already out...
just do a search on google for hdv, they all just came out with a press release.

Keep in mind that the per the documentation, the standard XL1 lens was designed to resolve 100 lines/mm at the center and 64 lines/mm at the corners. This is translated to at least ~600 video lines on a 1/3" CCD with 3x4 aspect ratio.
Will this be adequate for the next generation XL? Depends on what the next generation system needs in the way of a lens (sensor size and resolution). If the transition from the L2 to the XL series is any indication, the lens may not be a great choice if HD is planned.
