View Full Version : DVC16 Sign Up Thread!
Dylan Couper March 12th, 2009, 09:08 AM Ok, once again it's time to put your ego on the line and sign up for a DV Challenge!
A few things will be different this time!
First... The time frame. Instead of our usual 10 day challenge, you will have a full month!
The challenge will begin with the theme announcement on Thursday April 2nd, and will close Sunday May 3rd.
We will keep the extended time limit of 5 minutes, which everyone has found helpful.
And finally... the prize!
For our extended challenge, Guy Cochran and dvcreators.net (http://www.dvestore.com) have donated a
Reflecmedia 8'x8' Chromatte Package! Reflecmedia in action - Chroma key made easy on Vimeo (http://vimeo.com/393748)
This includes everything you need to create a Green Screen set - fast!
* Litering
* Controller
* 8'x8' Chromatte curtain
* adapter ring to fityour specific camera.
Last year these were $3800! The price has come down to $1500.This is going to be one awesome prize!
Here is Guy using it with the Canon 5D Mark II Chroma key with the Canon 5D and Reflecmedia on Vimeo (http://vimeo.com/2856291)
If that doesn't give you incentive to compete... nothing will. Now sign up or stay home!

AH, so it's a 5D2 subchallenge eh? :)
Marc Burleigh March 12th, 2009, 08:14 PM The day after April Fool's? Absolutely I'm in. I have to expunge my own mark on the Wall of Shame, and this could be a good way to do it. And that prize is one that's really going to bring a deluge of videomeisters down on this thread.....
Bruce Foreman March 12th, 2009, 11:03 PM Remember now, April Fools is the one day of the year that reminds of what we are the other 364...

Ohhhhh……that system is sooooo coooool. (All those extra letters signify me droooooling over here.) Wish I could compete--not that I could win, but dang…
Whining aside, I’m in.
P.S. GREAT prize, Guy. Thanks so much! :)
Chris Swanberg March 12th, 2009, 11:51 PM AH, so it's a 5D2 subchallenge eh? :)
Now hold on....
I think there should be a "points off" procedure for good (ok ok extreme) DOF.... and 5DMKII users should have to tie one hand behind their backs while shooting. Or be disqualified altogether. And in any event no rack focusing. period. Use of bad actors is encouraged. Crummy sound is a must with you as well. (Oh wait, you cannot disable AGC, nevermind <gotcha>).
Level playing field ... ya know.
(All the above was added to make them feel better..... the rest of us know we can make an EPIC using cell phone cameras)
Craig Yates March 13th, 2009, 09:56 AM I'm new here, but count me in! :)
Lorinda Norton March 13th, 2009, 11:52 AM Yeah, like brand new--first post! Welcome to DV Info, Craig, and the DV Challenge! You're going to have a great time. :)
Joseph Tran March 13th, 2009, 12:44 PM I agree with Chris...
... but at the same time, I can't wait to see the 5dmkii footage...
... oh what to do?
Ok, I jump, regardless.
IN!
Min Lee March 13th, 2009, 12:51 PM I like to give it a try. This would be my first challenge. Eager to put my 5D2 to use.
Craig Yates March 13th, 2009, 04:26 PM Yeah, like brand new--first post! Welcome to DV Info, Craig, and the DV Challenge! You're going to have a great time. :)

Peter Gjevre March 14th, 2009, 12:40 PM Is the challenge just for 5d MkII users? Or can anyone be involved?

The challenge is simly to do it. :)
When we first started back in... umm... Lorinda, when was the first DVC? '05? ... anyway, the challenge was initally to make a 3 minute short film in 7 days without knowing the theme until the start of day 1. Since then, people have nagged me into giving them 10 days and 5 minutes. We are experimenting with a month this time after doing multiple weeks for the charity challenge.
So... sign up and do it. :)

That's cuz you're a softie... :)
I looked it up, D...you announced the theme for the first DV Challenge on April 7, 2005. Can you believe we've been doing this for 4 years???
Bruce Broussard March 22nd, 2009, 05:43 PM I'm in.
"I wont fail this time, I wont fail this time, I wont fail this time..."
Stan Harkleroad March 23rd, 2009, 07:36 AM do I have to sign up now or can I decide if I want to when the theme is listed?
Lorinda Norton March 23rd, 2009, 08:55 AM Be brave and sign up now! :)
Dylan used to close sign-ups the day the theme was posted but for quite some time he's left it open. Personally, I think you cheat yourself out of part of the fun if you wait to see the theme.
You should look back and see some of the groans and complaining that went on the time we found out the theme was "The Sun;" yet, some pretty great films came out of it.
To answer your question, it's up to Dylan. ;)
Shaun Roemich March 23rd, 2009, 09:33 AM Ok, I'm jonesing to do something creative without having to get client approval. I'm in!
Mark Hartopp March 23rd, 2009, 11:28 AM Yep! I got some spare time - count me in.
Cool.
Bruce Foreman March 23rd, 2009, 04:47 PM do I have to sign up now or can I decide if I want to when the theme is listed?
Been a few times I wished I had known the theme before "signing up"...
...But then it wouldn't have been as much a challenge, would it.
I've seen the day I stepped in front of the camera myself, running it with a remote, the day before submission deadline to get something in out of spite.
Turned out not too bad, and I still had fun with it.
Jump in, may be just what the doctor ordered.
Chris Barcellos March 23rd, 2009, 05:08 PM So you sign up, and if theme doesn't work for you, you make a film anyway, and squeeze the theme in somehow. Then everyone says, "Wow, what a wonderful film... beautiful cinematography, great actors, or cute story". Then someon says, "Dude, not sure if I see the theme connection". But you still made a film...

Hey, Chris! Don't give away our secrets!
Mugurel Dragusin March 24th, 2009, 04:18 AM I am in, what the heck.
