I don't know how, but some pop-up software installed itself on my system. As soon as the computer turns on, I get one screen pop up right away, and then a single pop-up every 20 minute or so.

How can I get rid of this crap?!?

Thanks

Try out AdAware it seems to do a good job of finding and destroying this garbage: http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/

Hope that helps you out,

Cheers,

Pest Patrol is another good one. The thing I found with AdAware is that the free version is funded by ad companies and skips over certain software. It finds lots but not all. Either way get the full versions and not the free versions.

...get a Mac ;-)

Sorry, just couldn't resist. But seriously, are you using a PC? I've never heard of anything like this on the Mac. No doubt as soon as I write this my machine will develop the same problem though... how annoying!

Use Spybot Search and Destroy. The 'free' edition of Adaware misses lots of stuff and I've never bothered getting the full edition of Adaware.

You should also upgrade your Google toolbar. The new one will block all popups (the actions not any spyware that you might accidentally get installed in you browser).

I've also seen a lot of software that never shows up on the Mac, beneficial or otherwise.

Oh lookee here. A page for removing Spyware from ... your Mac! And viruses too!

If you have Win XP and the pop program was installed recently do a systems restore. It removes the popus stuff without having to install anything. It's an awesome feature (for just about any problem) and saves the day everytime.

go to the desktop and hit "F2". it's the 3rd from the "Pick a task" section.

If not Ad-ware is awesome

Hope this helps

I second Spybot, although I use both Adware and Spybot. Used together my system seems to stay clean.

You can also usually find most any type of program you need on the TUCOWS software library. That is pronouced "two cows".
http://tucows.net

Just click on the platform you are using, then click on the the category and do a search like "pop-up blocker" or "spyware removal", etc.

If you get a return of a lot of different software titles, just start with whichever one has the highest rating.
