View Full Version : First Test Edit with 5D2 and Cineform Neo Scene
Chris Barcellos February 28th, 2009, 02:11 AM I took new camera out today to do some test shooting. Shot with a Nikon 24mm and a Vivitar 70-205, mostly at full 205. Promising.

I did have dust or hair show up that I had to edit out, and will need to review my practices to assure I am not introducing a problem.
Jim Miller March 1st, 2009, 10:38 AM Very nice Chris. What lens adapter are you using to mount your nikons?
Chris Barcellos March 1st, 2009, 01:14 PM I got 5 of "Kawa" brand from EBay. They list at $7.99, but they add $ 8.00 shipping for each one. So look at as a $16.00 adapter. They shipped quickly within a week. I leave them permanently attached to my lenses.
I had to shave of flange on one Nikon lens. I also have to Pentax lenses I bought mounts for, and had to do some alteration for those. They will not work properly on a Pentax camera now, since I altered.

That would actually be very interesting even if it limits the participation.
Chris--it looked nice. How did you like working at full 205mm? Rolling shutter joy with any movement. :)

Barlow, working with telephoto is great, if you don't kick the tripod leg.. I actually have a Nikon 80-200, too, but I took this out there for test purposes. I actually followed an egret in flight a bit, but didn't look at it closely, I'll check that out to see what kind of rolling shutter effect showed.
On Saturday I shot a little promo for a local film festival, as part of a contest. We used the 5D exclusively. I am floored by the shots we are getting out of this camera. I will try to post something from that shortly.
Chris Swanberg March 1st, 2009, 10:39 PM Dylan..
A version of that thought had already occurred to me. Chris and I did this little :30 commercial shoot yesterday, and while I had seen some 5D stuff posted here, and it was good, I was hardly prepared for some of what came out of that camera last night. I mean you truly can do things with that camera that would be very difficult to duplicate with our current crop of HDV cameras for example. Low light shots particularly,
Oh and one bonus... people around you think you are shooting stills. For example, last night we had a location release from the theatre in our shoot, but no film permit (arguable whether we needed one...but) A couple bicycle cops rolled by and didn't give us a second glance. If we had been using the Z-1 with a letus adapter on it (unlikely in the dark but you get the idea) I bet they would have been on us in a flash.
1080P from a large sensor with the resultant DOF is addictive!

So what you're saying is...
we should ban the 5D from competition to keep the playing field level? :)
Barlow Elton March 1st, 2009, 11:53 PM Oh and one bonus... people around you think you are shooting stills.
That's my favorite part. It doesn't draw attention to itself and is way less intimidating than most low cost HD cameras.

Amen!
Chris Swanberg March 2nd, 2009, 12:54 AM Dylan.... ban the 5D from the competition because of the unlevel playing field?
YESSS.....
(Until I get one).
Chris
ps... And finally it will be levelled for me !
