Another editor gave me a large AVI file that he exported from FCP. I need to import and re-edit the AVI file in Premiere Pro CS3. But it will not import into Premiere Pro CS3. Is there any way to make this work?

Sounds like a codec problem, probably the Mac AVI wrapper is using a codec you don't have.

If you are both on Macs, Quicktime should open the avi and let you convert it to another codec. If you are on windows, and the FCP file was HDV2 codec, which I can't find for windows, it will need converting. A freeware program called GSpot will tell you what codec is being used, btw.

If the FCP guy can output as a Quicktime file using ProRes, the windows version of Quicktime will open it, so you can bring it directly into Premiere if you have 7.55 or 7.6 quicktime.

Failing that, try one of the video conversion programs or even Windows Media player and if they have the proper codec, you can convert the file to something Premiere will read. I have done this with Xilsoft Video converter, but there are lots of others (shareware) available. MPEGStreamclip (Squared5.com) may be of some help, as well.
