Say I record a 2 minute video but there is only 20 seconds I am intersted in. After I cut the video (and audio that I record separately) to result in the 20 seconds of interest is there a way for the original files to be replaced witht he 20 second content?

Sure. Render the new 20 second clip, delete the old.

Voila.

If you have an entire project that way, you can do a File - Save As, pick a new folder, and then check the option to "copy and trim media".

It will copy all files into a new folder, copying only the sections that are used in the project - if possible (It can't trim all formats), modify the VEG file to use those new files, and save the VEG in that folder as well.

Michael, that option allows you to save only the media that was actually used in the project and save it to a new folder.
When you do a "Save As", check this option and you'll get a screen that gives you the option of "Copy source media" or "Create trimmed copies of source media".
Selecting option one copies all media used in the project exactly as they were used.
Option two allows you to add "heads & tails" to your source media.
All unused media is not copied with either method.
What you end up with is a new folder with ONLY the media that was used in the project.
If you've ever done a project with a LOT of source material that was substantially cut down, you'll appreciate using this method for doing long-term backups.

I just took a look at this. That's a pretty nice feature for cleaning up before archiving.

I've done it a few times, especially with projects that will need to re-edited at some point in the future.
