This unit records files in Fat 32. Do they need to be run thru any other utility for usage in a system set up for NTSF (and to eliminate the many 4gb files that result) My business is strictly Legal Video and I need a way to capture video, backup (besides tape), download quicker and use Sorensen to convert to mpeg-1. Most of the Trial presentation software being used for sync'd transcripts requires mpeg-1 video files. I will be capturing in DV since HDV is not needed for this type of work at this level. Been shooting a long time but alot of this tech is new to me. Also looking at the nNovia unit but like the form factor of the MCR-1K and integration into future Sony camera.

Thanks

Sony has a free utility to transfer from the CF and the assemble the files to the drive/directory of your choice (ru_util.exe).

I did install this ru_util.exe program, but I have no idea of how to use it. Where can I read basic instructions of how to send the video recorded in the HVR-MRC1K unit and send it to my PC using this utility.

You just run it, no install required. It looks for an attached CF in a CF reader (maybe attached via firewire too, not sure). It then displays the clip files to convert and asks for a drive/directory on your system to put the converted files. It then transfers them and puts the subclips together. No instructions are available that I know of.
