View Full Version : SxS Card Capacity At Lowest Video Quality?

I have to shoot from 10:00am to 5:00pm non-stop on Monday to document an event. The video quality isn't very important for this event, so I'm trying to figure out if I have enough SxS cards to cover it. I could also borrow some cards from a friend of mine.

But I've searched through the manual to try and find somewhere that it lists the card capacity in minutes for an 8GB card recording 720 30P SP mode (not HQ) and the same capacity in minutes for a 16 GB card.

Anyone know where I can find this information?

The only SP mode is 1080/50i (or 60i).
This will get you 78 mins on a 16gb card, 39 mins on an 8gb card.
All other formats are HQ, 58 mins on a 16gb card, 29 mins on an 8gb card.

I'm finally in the office and was able to look at the camera menu. There's also a setting for 1080 24P in SP mode, but I'm going to go with 1080 60i for this project.

I've got 4x16 gb cards plus 1x8 gb card. I'm having my co-worker come to the event so about 1/2 way through she can archive and delete 2 of the 16 gb cards. That should get me through the day.

Anyone have experience shooting non-stop with SxS cards? I'm concerned about trying to shoot while I'm swapping out cards. I'll probably just zoom to a wide shot while I'm doing that. :)

I stand corrected, i just looked in the manual, you've got more, not just different settings in ntsc land.

If you've got the latest firmware, you could use the cheap sdhc cards.

Just lock the tripod off while you swap cards, do it carefully and slowly and it 's easy to do it without disturbing the camera.
