If you are comparing the HMC150 to the original HVX200 then HMC150 is much better in terms of low light performance since it has a newer chip. However, the HPX170 and HVX200a has the same new chip as the HMC150.

If you have not invested in P2 cards yet, HMC150 is a terrific solution. SD cards are so cheap compared to P2 media. Having said HPX170, HVX200a and HMC150 having the same chip and lense. They differ when it comes to the codec they record in. HMC150 uses AVCHD which has the color space of 4:2:0 compared to HPX170 & HVX200a uses DVCPRO/DVCPRO HD which has 4:2:2. But if you don't do any keying, it doesn't really matter. HMC150 doesn't have variable frame rates either. But you can easily just take a 720/60p and drop it into a 24p timeline and voila, slow mo! 40% I have seen comparison footage between HPX170 and HMC150 and its really hard to tell the difference.

Plus HMC150 is a lot cheaper! :)

I think it's a real pity the 150 doesn't have slow shutter speeds - so useful on many an occasion and far more useful that high shutter speeds in my opinion.

For a production house, you'll probably need a greater color space and other professional features. I'd pick the HPX170.

But with the cost of the camera and cost of media, I am happy with my HMC150.

Just how slow do you want it to be?
HMC150's slow shutter speed: 60i/60p mode: 1/15, 1/30 sec. 30p mode: 1/15 sec.

For production, you could use the uncompressed 4:2:2 HDMI output. If cineform would get the portable HDMI recorder available, that would be nice.

Also, maybe Tom mean't frame rates instead of shutter speed.

No, I meant shutter speed, The 151 has a slowest speed of 1/25th sec (in the write-up I read) whereas I quite regularly use 1/3rd and 1/6th sec on my Sony.

Hi Thanks to all of you.

Will you suggest a Production House to grab the HMC150 for commercial shooting?...Event,Wedding,Mini Concert,Interviewing,or even indoor and outdoor...

Tom,
The HMC will shoot at 1/15th....that is awfully slow in video. Granted, it cannot do 1/3 or 1/6th.

OK, the HMC151 (the PAL camera) has a 'slow'' shutter mode of 1/12th sec in 50i and 50p, and 1/12th sec in 25p.

Mac - at that price point the 151 is as good as it gets. But you could choose any camera at that price point from Canon, Sony or JVC and still be very pleased indeed. The skill input of the filmmaker has far more influence in the video outcome than ever the differences between the Z5 and 151.

Since getting the HMC-150, I have never taken it off the default shutter speed.

I bet at 1/15th it will really pull in some light!

Indeed.

After all, look at what this guy can do with just a measly HV30.
