Hi ,

IŽd like to make a small comparison and NLE compatibility test.

Is there a small AVC INTRA 100mbits and/or 50mbit file for download somewhere (30mb or so, nothing big)?

It would be great if someone could upload a small file.

Thanks

ULI

Hi Uli,

Here is a White Paper from Sony that makes a comparison between MPEG-2 Long GoP vs AVC-I video compression techniques.

Enjoy!

Interesting read. Thanx, Ivan.
The implication is that MPEG2 Long GOP is here to stay, until processor speeds are significantly increased. It justifies, imho, the selection of the Sony XDCAM HD codec(4:2:2 50/100mbps) as a good long term investment.

Hey guys,

Here is some HPX300 footage in P2 format. Only a couple of different shots in different frame rates but it'll give you an idea. This is all in AVC-I 100 1080.

HPX300-AVCI100.zip (http://www.filefactory.com/file/af0e22g/)

Some footage and stills can also be seen on my Vimeo site - Andy Shipsides on Vimeo (http://www.vimeo.com/shipsides)

I tested it myself - using the AVC-I file that Andy uploaded. Played it from timeline using EDIUS 5.01 - on dual Xeon, quad core, 3.2Ghz processors - it is only 30% busy. About the same overhead as DVCProHD ... I think Sony is doing us a dis-service by putting up this paper - it is very biased ... I would say.

AVC-I plays back in realtime on my laptop, running EDIUS 5. Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz.
