Vence Vida June 3rd, 2006, 09:27 PM Hey Philip,
I've been looking to buy an 897, so I've been checking around this week. B&H has them brand new for only $249 with free shipping and the have a used one that they say is in 9+ (mint) condition for only $189 with a B&H guarentee.
Would you consider coming down on that price or including some extras like those that Don mentioned?

Joe Barker June 3rd, 2006, 10:22 PM If you can afford it, get the sennhieser 416.I use an AT 897 and its a good mic for the price ,but in some situations it can sound a bit hollow and echoe, where the 416 seems more consistent and has warmer sound.I will keep my AT 897 as a backup but will definatly go for a Senn 416 on my next short film or doco.

Marty Hudzik June 4th, 2006, 11:29 AM For anyone interested in paying with cash or money order I am willing to deal a little. If I don't have to pay excessive paypal fees (or other methods that charge fees) I am willing to pass the savings on to the buyer.
If you check I am a reliable seller who has sold many high ticket items on Ebay (Xl1 and DVX100 purchased from via MO) as well as selling my XL2 kit ($4600 last Nov.) here on dvinfo. The buyer purchased via a cashiers check and I delivered the goods. So I am trustworthy if that is a concern.
Thanks.
Marty

Mike Phan June 5th, 2006, 03:37 PM Sorry Bigo,
I just got back from shoot this weekend got a chance to check email. Sure I'm in Elk Grove, I should have the box still...so you can gave everything that comes with it. When do you want to meet me? I can meet you at the BestBuy in Elk Grove right off of 99. Let me know if this good. Mike
Michael Sweeney June 5th, 2006, 03:41 PM okay, i just realized i have a decision to make. what do you think i should go for, the 16X of the 14X? i am somewhat on a small budget. any ideas?
Bob Safay June 5th, 2006, 05:04 PM I guess it would depend on what you are shooting. The 14X has that great iris ring that can not be beat for perfect exposure like when doing interviews. However, if you are doing wildlife then the 16X gives you a bit more reach, plus, it has a rocker controlled zoom. It is a lot heavier that the 14X. Bob

Cole McDonald June 5th, 2006, 08:41 PM if you're doing drama you may want the extra reach as well to get a shallower cheated DoF.
Henry Cho June 5th, 2006, 09:35 PM the 14x is a really nice lens. i've owned both lenses twice (used em, then sold em), but decided to keep a 16x. i need the stationary front element of the 16x, which seems to be a minor point in the plus column, but becomes important when you start throwing stuff in front of the lens like a clamp-on mattebox, or one of the home-kit 35mm adapters. that said, more often that not, i miss the 14x. the extra reach of the 16x hasn't proven to be more useful for my purposes, and the two ND filters in the 16x are convenient, but there are a myriad of ways to exercise light control. optically, they're virtually the same. the thing with the 14x that makes it so cool is it's sweet iris ring. the iris ring gives this lens a lot of character, enough so, in my eyes, to differentiate it from the 16x as a totally different lens, and if i could afford it, i'd have both. if it weren't for the stationary front element of the 16x, i think i would have kept the 14x instead.
the 14x lenses being offered here are a steal IMHO.
