If i'm shooting in manual mode and I dont chose a pre-set, what happens? does the camera defualt to something else? I have not downloaded any pre-sets but it appears that the camera already has two loaded. Is one of them being used if I dont set it? ALso does a pre-set have to be used? And fianly, if i'm in auto mode wil the camera except a pre-set or does it apply its own settings?

1. It works in full manual mode.

5. Yes, it will accept a preset in Auto but it is not required.
