If i'm using both xlr's (shotgun Mics) and I want the sound from booth mics to be on the same channel, should the selctor switch be set to ch 1 or 1/2? Thanks in advance.

The selector switch works this way:

Channel1: Channel 1 goes to channel 1, Channel 2 goes to channel 2

Channel1
Channel2: Channel 1 goes to channel 1 & 2 on tape.

I don't think you can mix Channel 1 and Channel 2 together to one channel on the tape inside the camera. You would need a mixer for that.

I was under the impression that you could hook a mic in each xlr and record in stero. I was also uner the impression that creating stero was done by usin one mic in each of the two xlr's and putting your selector switch to channel 1. Is this not correct?

I want the sound from booth mics to be on the same channel.

So am I correct? Any help would be apprciated. I am new to this camera and have a shoot coming up and really want to use the xha1 for it. Any further insight to my question would be helpful. Thanks.

If you want 2 channel sound using two mic's, the CH1 position is it.

Whether it is stereo or two distinct channels depends on the placing of the mics.

Both mics relatively close together, pointing more or less in the same direction will give you stereo.

One mic "on - cam" and the other "up close and personal" to the action will give you 2 distinct channels of audio, for example.
