I have noticed that my new Z5U and Final Cut Pro--Log and Capture won't close?
During footage capture I get several warning about time-code break. I don't know why it is just a start and stop from Rec on the camera?

When finished importing the Log and Capture window won't close? I keep clicking the red circle "x" and/or CMD+8 and I keep getting a chime. I can move the Log and Capture around but it won't close. I hate to keep force quitting Final Cut after every import but I don't know what else to do.

(Should I not check emails or surf the web during import?)

Any suggestions?

You say that you only did start and stop while recording.

But did you happen to review your footage at any point while you were shooting.
If you review your footage and you either don't cue the tape in the exact spot that it ended, or backup just a little bit so you record over the end of the previous shot, then you will have a timecode break and FCP can have issues with this.

This has happened to me before and it's a PIA.

The funny thing is that if I capture in iMovie I don't have these timecode break or audio sync (which I have had recently) issues. It is kind of ridiculous that a free program can do a better job at simple tasks, like capturing footage, than a $1,200 professional program.

No, I definitely do not review my footage because of that reason.

I think the Z5 has a function called quick record or something like that, correct? Are you using that? It can cause minor glitches that might show up as a time code error. At least, that is what I remember reading in my V1 manual.

No, I'm not sure what quick record is. I don't think that it is on.

The Sony Z1 had an issue where the timecode would become broken if the heads spun down between takes. When the heads spun down, I was extra careful to make sure I had left enough pre-roll in camera, in this case at least 8 seconds instead of my usual 5.

Not sure if that has anything to do with the issue you're having.

I'm finding that I have to use higher quality tape for HDV in order to avoid dropouts on both a Z5U and Z7U. Maybe this is related?
