When I spoke with Canon they said that if I bought from a non-authorized dealer the important question to verify was if they had a "one year USA or International factory warranty card from Canon." (I put that in quotes because I asked for exact phrasing)

If the answer is "yes" then everything is okay.

Ebay scares me a lot... but there are a few dealers that sell on ebay that rated very highly at resellerratings.com. So, I'm considering them.

Despite the plug here for Watchdog Sponsors they are the safest place to buy from. I bet they are all authorized dealers and found that Canon could not always tell me who was authorized or not.

Of course in New Orleans or rather Metairie there are some shops there that are authorized too.

where would you get a sales receipt that wasn't dated? i can't recall ever getting a receipt/invoice/etc without a date. i don't know if vendors that are not authorized dealers don't put dates on their receipts, i would think they would though. maybe i misunderstood, if so i apologize.

Many ebay sales ship with no dated sales receipt or sales receipt at all. Some ebay sellers ship with only a credit card receipt and not a sales receipt. The dated sales receipt also effects used camera sales that David inquired about. By leaving a date off, an unscrupulous person could fill in the date and obtain warranty service after the one year warranty period. Some dealers condone this practice.

This is a really good point. I never acknowledged to myself how completely important a dated sales receipt would be to obtaining the Canon warranty. In that case, picking one up used would be an even greater risk.

Thanks, everyone for your help thus far.

Here's my next question: Can I purchase a camera now and purchase the extended warranty at a later date? Does anyone have any experience with this?

ah, i see. i wasn't sure what you ment, but i can see that with ebay sellers. thanks for clearing that up for me :)

david, i believe you have upto 30 days after you purchase the camera to buy an extended warranty (at least a mack warranty). i don't know if other warranties out there are different.

I would never buy something that expensive off Ebay, unless I could pick it up and test it in person.
If I was going to buy it new, I'd rather get it somewhere I trused, rather than the person that was willing to sell it the cheapest. It would make we wonder what was in it for them.
I bought my first XL1 used, localy. I paid more for it than I might have, but I got to test it in person and made sure there was nothing wrong with it. The second XL1 I bought off an established member of this forum for a very reasonable price, and am very happy with it.

I have two sets of unopened Panasonic 'Professional' series AY-DVM63PQ MiniDV tapes. Each box contains 5 individually wrapped and sealed tapes in plastic cases. The boxes themselves are unopened. Presently they are stored in a clean drawer where I keep the remainder of my media.

I'd like to sell each box for $20.00. They are small so I don't expect the shipping to be very much, well under $5.00 that's for sure, probably closer to $2.50 anywhere in the USA. Will definitely verify any shipping costs prior to sending it out of course.

I'm selling these because I am using AY-DVM63MQ 'Master' series tapes instead.

Of course, feel free to email me if you have any questions or if you think the price is too high. I accept Paypal but I'm open for other options, just let me know.

The price is not out of line. Our sponsor, Pro-Tape www.pro-tape.com sells the Pana 63PQ at a regular price of $5.96 each.

Congratulations on your move up to the MQ series. Hurray for the little white box.

I've checked Bhphoto but there aren't any available. Any suggestions for another shotgun mic that I can get for my PD150?

Christopher Go
February 5th, 2003, 05:09 PM
Thanks, Chris. The MQs are distinct looking tapes, but then again I haven't seen too many MiniDV tapes to compare them with. Now to get some good footage for these...

AT 835B is a good ENG shotgun and quite a bit less expensive. I think it is more rugged than the Sennheiser and level-wise, is a better match.

In fact, if you purchase a standard ME66 with K6, you will have to either use an attenuator in the output or send the K6 to Sennheiser for modification to lower the output levels.

Mike Rehmus
February 7th, 2003, 05:44 PM
Because every jib (and there are a lot out there) have differing specs, it would be useful if you could also post the physical characteristics you require so we would know the performance you need rather than the brand.

Just a thought and not a rock. :-)))

If anyone has a copy of Final Draft they want to sell, let me know. I tried out the demo and really like it, but not enough to buy it new. Doesn't have to be version 6, version 5 might be ok, if it's mostly the same.
Cheap please.

All DV Info Net sponsors are indeed authorized dealers. I wouldn't allow them onboard if they weren't. Simply put, our sponsors here at DV Info Net are without question the best, most reputable, most honest suppliers you can find, anywhere. And their prices are highly competitive... you'll be getting an excellent deal. Don't settle for anything less. For more info, see http://www.dvinfo.net/sponsors/index.php.

I'm now using the Chrosziel full time, so I am letting go of my CAVISON 4x4 2 stage (1 fixed, 1 rotating) *bellows* matte box with rods attachment and rings for both the IS lens and manual lenses. Complete kit for the XL1(S) - or can be easily adapted to work with other cams.

(Not gonna part with my trusty 'ol LEE Filters Lightweight Video Hood (sorry!), that box just brings back too many fond memories to just let it go,,, well not just yet anyways!)

Soooo, if you are at all interested in getting into 4x4 filtration with your DV cam, send me a message at "don@noisybrain.com"

Best,

Hi Dylan,

It's the same model as the one pictured on the XL1 WatchDog at http://www.dvinfo.net/canon/images/images08.php, complete with rods and optional ring adaptors for both IS lenses and both Manual lenses. I paid $490 for it, best offer takes it.

What camera/ lens are you looking to equip with a matte box?

It's now Friday evening and I am spending Valentine's Day by editing non-stop with my brother Dan. I guess that makes me a geek.
