B&H just startet to allow pre-orders für the GY-HM100. Price: $3,999, gulp. For that kind of money its low light capability better is pretty darn good...

Thanks sheer madness- the price hasnt been confirmed by JVC yet - that $4000 price is just indicative of the RRP.

JVC indicated the price as "under $4000." The stated B&H price is indeed under $4000.

Hehe, Chris, you are right. But for some reason I "feel" that a price around $3000 would be more suitable if I look at what the competitors have to offer. Geez, I just passed up a basically new Sony Ex1 for $4,750 just because it is just too bulky for what I want to do. But the JVC still has to proof that it is not simply a pimped out HFS 100 with better manual control and good audio but very small sensors...

I have seen in past where B&H will take preorders and when the product actually ships, the price will be lower. I'm not saying for sure that will happen with the HM 100, but obviously with any camera the price will drop over time.

Since one's card is charged on placing the order, since JVC has published that the final price is not set, since the camera is not due until sometime in April (a month after the HM700), and since no-one has yet seen anything except an incomplete demo model, it may not be in many people's best interest to pre-order this weekend. (Though in my case, if I could get delivery within the next two weeks, I would, but instead I am preparing to take the XH-A1 for a looming project.)

Well, you can always cancel your order. Or send the camera back within 15 days if you donīt like it... I took the chance, hoping that the cam is going to be as good as promised and that the price will come down at least by $500...

If I keep my order and get it in time before my big road trip in April - sure.

If the price comes down on release, do you get a refund of the amount below $3999, or are you stuck with the $3999 charge? Does anyone know?

In the past B&H refunded people and I would expect them to do so again. Otherwise you could just send it back... Btw., if you use the bill-me-later option you don`t have to worry about credit card charges right now...

Since this camera is going to allow me to make history (if all goes as planned...), I pre-ordered. Here's hoping the hype is conservative.

(Now the concern is that if too many people pre-order, the price won't come down.)
