So ive seen some post talking about just directly mounting like SLR canon lenses on the end of the bayonet. Is it possible to do this with a bayonet adapter? Because Everything Ive read says you have to have a Letus or Red rock etc etc. I want a better DOF and cant get it with the stock lens.

This issue crops up every now and again. Mounting a 35mm lens to a 1/3 inch sensor plane won't yield a shallower DOF. What you'll get is some pretty good magnification, on the order of 7x, but, no change to the DOF.

So to get the enhanced DOF i would have to have an adapter?

The DOF of a particular focal length at a particular f stop won't change hugely between formats. However, if you use what would be a slightly wide angle focal length on a 35mm SLR onto a 1/3" video you then will have a narrower angle of view (more a telephoto lens effect).
So, if you wish to keep the angle of view of the 35mm format lens on a 1/3" or 2/3" camera you need to create a 35mm sized image that the smaller format video camera can record. Because you're using a longer focal length lens you'll have the shallower DOF. So you'd need a 35mm adapter to do this.
I'd avoid using terms like "better", because that would depend on what you're trying to do. Shooting a model for a visual effects shot you want a large DOF to create the illusion of the full sized object. Shooting a CU of a human model you may wish to have a shallow DOF - unless you're making "Citizen Kane"

Well im shooting more cinematic things. I have a few lenses to work with so there different depths but i would defiantly need a 35mm adapter. Can you recommend a good cheap one?

Letus Extreme
Brevis MP1
Redrock M2
Letus did make a version specifically for the JVC HDxxx series that mounted straight to the camera. Good luck finding on though.

The 1st version of the HDxx compatible letus is not so ideal as it had a big crop factor. Using the stock as relay is still the best way to go in an HDxx + adapter setup.

Ah ic. Ok. Well what if i wanted to go about making my own Adapter? Do yall know any info on doing that?

Cameron,
You'll find a wealth of information in making one at the alternative imaging thread.
