If you shoot with a preset loaded from the SD card, then turn off the camera, do you need to load the preset again before you start shooting? Or if you change the battery?

In all power conditions -- coming up from standby mode, turning on from power off, or turning on from power off after the battery has been reinserted -- whatever Custom Preset file was active at power down will be active again. So the answer is no, you will not need to load the preset again before you start shooting. Hope this helps,
