Let me preface this by saying that I am a newbie and am asking maybe a stupid question. How did the RedRock help you make these videos? I was under the impression that the RedRock mainly for DOF.

Yes, that's right. A1 + RedRock = much greater DOF than you'd get with the camera by itself.
