Hi there,

Is there anyone in this forum that advertises on Facebook? I am planning to advertise, it seems you can target engaged couples directly. It's a pay for click advertisement with an initial investment of $ 25. Any success? Thoughts?

it does sound like a good idea. I would be interested as well to hear from others who do the same.

I use Facebook to advertise and I LOVE it!!

You can choose to target only people who have "Engaged" on thier profile. You can choose what locations, age demographics etc.

I would say at LEAST a third of my business comes from Facebook. I set my limit at $5.00/day and when I hit $5.00 they just turn off my ad.

Currently with my chosen demographics, there are about 50,000 people who get targeted by my ad. I watch the statistics and when my ad has been shown about 200,000 times (which means all 50,000 people have seen it about 4 times) I turn it off for a few days.

That's all I can think of. If you have anymore questions let me know!

ETA: Noel, now that I see that you are my "competition" I should tell you that I actually HATE it and highly recommend you advertise in the back of the Pennysaver! You get all sorts of work from there! lol! ;-) kidding!

Thanks Kelsey. Don't worry when I clicked on people engaged the target is @ 120,000 in Toronto alone. We can split the market ( we'll take 60,000 weddings each)/ j/k.lol

Okay Facebook it is.

How (on Facebook) do you get a listing of how many people are "engaged" in a particular area?

When you post an AD at Facebook, you are given choices of target market (i.e. single. married or engaged), you can also choose location, age, etc.

Thank you so much for the information.

How many hits do you get for $5? I don't quite understand the whole set your own per click price, someone care to explain that to me?

Hi Ethan,

The pay for click cost determines your heirarchy in the ADs, a wedding videographer with a .50 per click will be listed first, .45 second, and so on. You can set it at .25 per click & set your daily spending at $ 5.00, once you have 20 hits you are done for the day.

Is it Facebook wide advertising or limited to your region? I kinda like the idea of both... 20 hits a day is a lot, that's tempting.

You can set it to any location you like, province wide, countrywide, city wide. It is tempting I'll start advertising tonight and concentrate in the Toronto area.

I feel a spike in Facebook Wedding Videographer Ad's coming in the next few days. It's things like this that I never knew existed that make these forums great.

Hey Chris, thanks for making this place, it's been a godsend.

i tried it the very same week that advertising became available to facebook members.

i only stayed with it for 2 or 3 weeks, with no real success.

and i'll tell you what, back then, selecting 'engaged' people wasn't an option, which i remember thinking was quite annoying! i may look into it again someday now i know it is an option :)

I probably get about half my business from Facebook, the other half coming from referrals. Ditto to the other comments: you can really drill down to your target market, and you can also explore other markets that might be a little farther than you'd like to travel, but you can feel around and see if the rates are good enough to do a full-on marketing campaign there.

Of course I target the engaged couples in my area, but there are lots of other niche markets you can get into. For instance, I do a lot of sports stuff, so I can target people with activities like "football" or "baseball." Also, if there's an event coming up that might be a good opportunity, I'll plant little seeds months in advance about event videography and target the ad to specific keywords related to the event I'd like to cover.

The only downside about Facebook Ads... the site doesn't perform well in Firefox. I have to use an extension to switch my rendering engine over to IE for things to behave correctly.

I just thought I'd mention that I use Firefox and Facebook works great in it. Maybe there's an issue with Firefox on your system?

I also came across the problem with firefox. I needed to use IE tab to open that.

I just created my first ad. Let's see how it works :-)

BTW: Firefox is working properly (ver. 3).

I also just created a Facebook ad. Trouble is when I break it down to the local towns
(I can't select county which is a huge shame) I am left with only 1800 engaged ladies (certainly wouldn't target the guys)

So I am not holding out much hope. Might be great if in London, Birmingham or Manchester, but in little old Dorset I am not going to get rich on Facebook.

'only' 1800 engaged ladies in local towns....Steve, i would consider that really good!

I think you are in a far better position on the edge of London. All those satellite towns. Down here we have Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, Weymouth, Dorchester and ........??

I have now made another ad which is awaiting approval which is a bit further afield from my base, and includes Southampton, Bath, Salisbury. Now have 3800 engaged ladies.

First add has been up for 10 hours and not a single click. Not going to go through my $15 a day I don't think. More like 0.20 a day!

I would say that a healthy THIRD of my initial contacts are made by grooms! I definitely target engaged men in my ad! Plus I've had a few men contact me for quotes on other projects.

In other words...I wouldn't omit them, they'll only click if they are interested!

I target both men and women. My area is large though - NJ,NY and CT. That's 150k engaged ppl. So far in 2 days I had 15k displayes and 9 clicks. But for now I'm limiting the daily expenses to $2 which gives me aprox 6 clicks. I want to test it before full go with refreshed website.

Hi there,

Any updates from those who tried? So far I have 6 clicks on 3,000 impressions, no inquiries has been made though, I figured it is 1 inquiry for every 20 clicks.

Noel,

you're blowing me away. I've had 2 clicks in 7,900 impressions!

I think I set my target market a little tight. I wanted to try it for a week. You can't really edit your ad, you have to 'create a similar ad'

I think the concept is a good idea. Can you imagine taking out a newspaper ad and only paying for the people who read your ad?

I have had 94,797 views and 54 clicks for four days. No inquiries yet. I'm going to leave it for a month though and see how it goes. If anything it is great for branding and getting your name out there.

I've had more than 93,000 impressions and 36 clicks in four days, with a $5 daily limit. Are you all targeting just brides, or both men and women? I'm targeting both right now, but wondering if I should just do engaged women, to cut down on my impressions.

Oops, read right past a couple of these posts -- are these initial contacts coming from Facebook referrals, or are you talking in general? Even though I'm getting click-throughs, they're not spending a lot of time on my site, and my bounce rate is pretty high. And I haven't yet received any contacts.

From Facebook I get a third of my contacts from Grooms.

Interestingly my ad used to have an image of a video camera on it and I would say I had LOTS of grooms inquire. Recently my ad has an image on a B&G in an embrace...not as many men seem to notice it. Funny eh?

This is certainly interesting. From those of you who mentioned you get a lot of business from facebook I would like to know if you are referring to mainly wedding business? Would you consider these budget brides or are they spending a good amount of money with you?

Keep your eye out for free coupon codes for Facebook Ads. Just Google "coupon code for Facebook Ads". We were able to capitalize on about $300 worth of free advertisements. I think Visa has one for $100.00

Thanks for the heads-up. I was able to get a $ 100 by just joining the Visa Business Network on Facebook.

I just did that too. Thx a lot for a tip.

BTW: is there a network group for videographers?
