View Full Version : Sony's Virtual Expo Jan. 15th
Doug Jensen January 13th, 2009, 10:17 PM If you're not already aware, Sony is hosting an online virtual expo this Thursday.
Anyone who would like the opportunity to ask questions and/or chat with dozens of Sony XDCAM staffers ought to sign up. Unless you're headed to NAB, this is a rare opportunity.

Perrone Ford January 13th, 2009, 10:35 PM What's the cost? Trying to get the better part of the day off to sit in front of a computer should be a hoot!
Andrew Stone January 13th, 2009, 11:12 PM It's free or rather "complimentary" Perrone. Mentioned on the linked page albeit in an obscured manner.
Brooks Graham January 14th, 2009, 12:46 AM I have a revenue-generating gig on thursday and would really like to attend this. But revenue takes priority these days. :-|
If someone from our little community here at DVi does this event, could you please, please write up a little summary?
Perrone Ford January 14th, 2009, 01:11 AM I might be able to have a quiet day that day. I'll see if I can attend.
Vincent Oliver January 14th, 2009, 02:43 AM I am not sure if I will be finnishef in time for this event, if not can someone ask the question about a Sony recommended HD - SD workflow
Jay Gladwell January 14th, 2009, 05:59 AM I signed ups weeks ago, but I haven't had any kind of reply from Sony.
Barry J. Anwender January 14th, 2009, 07:59 AM Thank you Doug for taking the time to post this and providing us with the heads up. An innovative outreach to those of us unable to travel to the big convention cities. Also a green approach with consideration to the economic realities of all concerned. Cheers!
Chris Li January 14th, 2009, 08:46 AM There's also this:

Next thing you know, NAB will be gone!
Craig Seeman January 14th, 2009, 11:05 PM After registering I received an reminder on January 9th which also mentioned that I'd be getting an email with the link the day of the show (tomorrow by my time).
Now I have to figure out how one can buy the show demo equipment off the show floor at the end of the day.
I signed ups weeks ago, but I haven't had any kind of reply from Sony.
Jay Gladwell January 15th, 2009, 05:30 AM I went back and found the original e-mail. It stated: "You will receive a link to the show via email on the day of the event."
Hmmm, that seems to be cutting it kind'a close. It's "the day of the event" and as of 6:30AM it still hasn't arrived.
Paul Kellett January 15th, 2009, 05:55 AM I went back and found the original e-mail. It stated: "You will receive a link to the show via email on the day of the event."

I haven't got my link either, and it's 11:30am here in the uk.
Paul.
William Urschel January 15th, 2009, 07:16 AM Ditto! Where did they go?
Jay Gladwell January 15th, 2009, 07:30 AM Starts in 30 minutes and no e-mail with link as promised.
Maybe they canceled due to a lack of interest.
Perrone Ford January 15th, 2009, 07:36 AM I registered and got my email.
Jay Gladwell January 15th, 2009, 07:37 AM I registered and got my email.
Can you give us the link?
Kenny Cowburn January 15th, 2009, 07:41 AM I am registered and have been confirmed a few days ago

I also find myself patiently awaiting a mail with the link, but if it starts @ 9 am EST, that makes it when?????(finished atually)
it is now 21h40 on Jan the 15th in China and is supposed to run from 09h00 - 20h00 EST...
I´m at a bit of a loss
Thomas Gregory January 15th, 2009, 07:42 AM Hey folks, the Sony website states that the web event will begin 9AM, EST. That's USA time. Sorry for those in Aus. and waiting. It's 8:30am here in US, and I haven't gotten an e-mail link yet either, but I'm not suprised... it's now 30 minutes before it's to begin.
Jay Gladwell January 15th, 2009, 07:45 AM Wrote "support" this is their reply:
Hi Jay,
This won't be emailed to you until 9am ET today.

Thanks.

Craig Seeman January 15th, 2009, 07:48 AM 8:47AM and no email link either despite getting a reminder on January 9.
William Urschel January 15th, 2009, 07:50 AM Jay! Thanks for the info! I guess those of us receiving nothing will just stand by.
Craig Seeman January 15th, 2009, 08:03 AM Arrived 9:02AM EST
Jay Gladwell January 15th, 2009, 08:05 AM Me, too, Craig.
We're in!
Craig Seeman January 15th, 2009, 08:10 AM Floor is noisy but I don't see anyone. Hey, where's coffee and bagels?
Sami Sanpakkila January 15th, 2009, 08:14 AM Im in too, so what do you guys recommend to check out?
Sami
Jay Gladwell January 15th, 2009, 08:28 AM Check it all out!
Chris Hurd January 15th, 2009, 08:50 AM Wow, Alex Shapiro looks just as good online as he does in person...
Craig Seeman January 15th, 2009, 09:16 AM Sony Companion looks interesting.
It's a fast field transfer device for SxS and apparently will work with SD as well with adaptor.
250GB HD
8GB SxS less than 2.5min so it seems to be 10x transfer speed.
Clark Peters January 15th, 2009, 09:23 AM The Companion looks like just what I need, but $2,000? Yikes!
Pete
Craig Seeman January 15th, 2009, 09:24 AM Companion list price is supposedly around $2000 coming in 30 days. So it's as much as a 15" MacBookPro with Express port (although it has more storage).

Thanks, Craig, where did you find that?
