My own experience has been that Parkinson's Law or a corollary to Parkinson's Law certainly seems to apply, namely, that data expands to fill the space available for storage. I am filling 1 terabyte drives now, and still am amazed that I can do so. Not too many years ago, a gigabyte was unthinkable.

My hope is that cameras like Jim Jannard's Red One and Scarlet and other 4 Mpixel and above video cameras will gobble up this terabyte storage with far less aggresive compression, perhaps leading to a time when video will truly equal or exceed the best of 35mm film movie making. Even the very lowly Blackmagic Intensity cards for a few hundred bucks with their native HDMI data rates could fill a terabyte in no time at all with present 1920 by 1080 video depending on the codec used for compression.

I guess my point is that unthinkably vast storage devices seem to somehow become filled, and people like us with high definition video are among the very first to exploit them.

It is thus relatively easy, even using today's sensors and optics, to make a very strong case for camcorder terabyte recording devices which are small, solid state flash memory.

Frankly I find all of this way more enticing than using BluRay optical disks which hold a paltry 25 GB.....
