Lorinda Norton January 8th, 2009, 01:42 PM Beautiful!!! The HD link is definitely worth watching. It's like video postcards. :)
Vidar, I really enjoyed watching this. You took us up close to the beauty of ice and water; some of the reflections in the ice caused by the water rushing behind took my breath away!
Per Johan Naesje January 8th, 2009, 01:56 PM Vidar, you have a very good eye for those ice-compositions! Very well done and the music supplemented the picture in a fine way. The ending with the burning sky was also thrilling to watch
Very good work!
Robert Martens January 8th, 2009, 02:17 PM You have the same taste I would if I did more nature photography. Jaw dropping skies, and some of the most beautiful ice shots I've ever seen. So crisp and clean, I can't thank you enough for the HD version!
The bark on the trees and the innumerable icicles show off quite a lens, would you be so kind as to tell us what you used to shoot this film? I know "content is king" for these contests, but these images are too sharp to let the question go unasked.
And how did you achieve that lighting effect at around 0:35? I'm very easily amused by refracted light, what you've done here made me rewind the video a few times to watch it over and over again.
Chris Barcellos January 8th, 2009, 02:35 PM You depicted a very interesting world of "natural" ice sculpture. With several of the shots I had to do double takes because my mind initially saw intentional sculptures. This was a very nice film !
Vidar Vedaa January 8th, 2009, 02:56 PM Hallo Robert.
I use a Sony HVR-A1 on wide angel, 1-3cm from the ice.
The light is a hand-held stroblight whit a reflex in front.
Can give some special effect, see link to a earlyer film.

Dale Guthormsen January 8th, 2009, 03:46 PM vidar,
First, very fine compositions!!! The only one I was not fond of was the log sticking up through the top of the frame draws me out of the page as apposed toward the focal point.
you have a fine eye for abstract compositions. One tree resembles an elephant and one ice image resembles a seal or otters head. Outstandingly done.
Truly a nice and relaxing piece. I would make a looped DVD and put it on my 54 inch plasma and use it as a day end tranquilizer!!! Send me one!! NTSC oc course.
Geat Job!!
Tom Sherwood January 8th, 2009, 03:54 PM Wow another pro's work here. I swear you guys must work for National Geographic HD or something. Very nice film, really enjoyable.
Robert Martens January 8th, 2009, 04:16 PM I use a Sony HVR-A1 on wide angel, 1-3cm from the ice. The light is a hand-held stroblight whit a reflex in front.
Very impressive! That's a nice little camera, and you're quite a skilled operator, judging by your results.
The other film you linked is just as amazing as this one! I should probably stop by the UWOL forum more often.
Hugh DiMauro January 8th, 2009, 05:15 PM Vidar, I am sorry to say that I could not upload your video. I have been so blown away by the UWOL entries that I was really looking forward to viewing yours. Based on your replies thus far, you made a beautiful movie. If there is a way to e-mail a working link, I would greatly appreciate that!
Catherine Russell January 8th, 2009, 09:12 PM Vidar:
You have outdone yourself on this one. Your technical expertise as described to Robert shows how masterful you are behind the scenes to produce something that looks so spontaneous and lovely.
This was superb.

Trond Saetre January 10th, 2009, 01:27 PM Hei Vidar,
Very nice video you made. The visuals, the colors, the choice of music matches the pictures...
You did all this very well!
But I think some parts of your video were too long and didnīt add anything new.
So I feel it could have been cut a bit shorter and still be equal, or maybe even better.
By the way, was the music looped? Sounded like it was repeating itself.
Anyway, I think you make real good videos.
Keep them coming!
Meryem Ersoz January 11th, 2009, 02:57 PM very beautiful...nice cinematography...
