View Full Version : New camera from JVC , WOW
Dennis Kane January 8th, 2009, 08:24 AM Last night at Macworld JVC launched their new GY HM100 camera. It records EXCAMEX at 35 mbs in Native Quicktime to SD cards. 1080i, 1080p at 24, 30 fps, 720p @ 24, 30 fps and much more all on SD card. 30 min recording on a $45 card. Apple showed how easy it was to import into FCP; you simply drag and drop from the camera into the browser, A whole card imported under 5 sec. Fujinon lens, and much more, shipping in April, under $4000.

Theodore McNeil January 8th, 2009, 08:31 AM Apparently, there are two cameras coming. There is also a shoulder mount 1/3 chip version coming in February. I posted the press release in another thread... http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/991200-post34.html
Jon Sands January 8th, 2009, 09:12 AM So basically an EX1?
Jeff Harper January 8th, 2009, 09:16 AM No, not an EX1 by a long shot. The 100 has 1/4 inch chips. The 700 has 1/3" chips. They do look very nice. 1080p? All I can say is WOW!
Perrone Ford January 8th, 2009, 09:20 AM So basically an EX1?
Missing a lot of stuff the ex1 has, like 1/2" sensors (it's got 1/4"?) and hd-sdi, etc. I think its targeted at the hmc-150, but the tiny sensors will hurt it in low light.
Phil Bloom January 16th, 2009, 06:07 AM Looks like a couple of great cameras...be great to try them out
Bill Ravens January 16th, 2009, 06:55 AM Hard to beat a 1/2 inch sensor, unless it's a 2/3 inch sensor. DOF, alone, makes the 1/2 inch sensor stand out above a 1/4 or 1/3 inch. The image on my EX1 beats, hands down, the image on my HD100. I will say, however, the HD110 looks much more filmic than the EX1.
Phil Bloom January 16th, 2009, 07:01 AM without a doubt, but as replacements for my old hd201e these are terrific, all those formats and straight to cheap sd cards and quicktime. Going to do very well these cameras methinks...

Nice mix of Yoda and old English there.
I never did understand why more camera manufactures don't use SD cards in their products. The cheaper the media, the more people will adopt the camera. Makes sense to me.
Phil Bloom January 16th, 2009, 08:57 AM probably more...
new cameras do well will they methinks

C.S. Michael January 16th, 2009, 10:46 AM I'm excited to see all these desirable features in such a compact package.
The form factor, important, it is.
David Parks January 16th, 2009, 10:56 AM Hopefully I can be empowered with the HM700 (That's the shoulder mount version). Under $6k would be nice. That would be priced below the XDCAM EX and around the price of the HD 200.
I guess we'll see in Feb.
Phil Walker January 16th, 2009, 01:39 PM Craig, I see that you've chimed in here. So, can you say more about the quicktime codec here. It's the XDCam codec in a QT wrapper - Yes? So, it's long GOP? Anything else we should know. I haven't worked with XDCam yet, but I'm intrigued by this camera ... and the 700 too. Any tidbits you can throw at us on the 700? Thanks. pw
Craig Yanagi January 16th, 2009, 10:53 PM Please go to the ProHD discussion topics on each of these models, as I think this is the prudent thing to do: JVC Pro HD Acquisition Systems - The Digital Video Information Network (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/jvc-pro-hd-acquisition-systems/)
Right, Chris?
