View Full Version : Slow down zoom speed on the FX1?

I know that depending on how far you depress the rocker, that determines the zoom speed, but is there a setting that allows this to be slowed down more since this is used in an underwater housing?

I'm pretty sure that my Zoe LANC remote controller allows a slower zoom speed on my FX1 than either the rocker or the handle-mounted 'low' position allows. As your UWH will be using LANC control, you might find you have that facility already.

The zoom thumbwheel on the housing is exponential, and the difference in wheel rotation between a nice slow zoom and one too fast is too small of a movement....

Did you change the zoom settings in the menu?

Unfortunately there is an issue with LANC zoom on the Z1 (and presumably the FX1). You can get much slower zoom speeds using the rocker, but it's very tricky to apply just the right amount of pressure. See this thread for more info: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/sony-hvr-z1-hdr-fx1/55047-z1-lanc-zoom-disappointment.html

Did you change the zoom settings in the menu?

Is that possible?

The menu allows you to set pre-selected zoom speeds for the handle rocker, that's all. Out of interest I have low and high as far apart as possible.

Thanks for the reminder Boyd. I'd 'remembered' this LANC vs rocker the wrong way round.
