Hi all,

I am using the Sony PMW EX3 for wildlife. Haven't used it with the Flash XDR yet as I wanted to wait till it works without glitches.
I am hoping to use my older HDV camera Sony HVR Z7 with the Flash XDR as due to the smaller chip I get a much greater reach which is great for my needs.
My question is - how can I tell whether the signal captured by the Z7+Flash XDR combo at 1080 25p 100Mbs is good enough to use for a wildlife documentary which I hope to sell to the big names?
Is there a lab who can check the footage for me?
It would be a disaster to spend months of hard work using this combo just to realise it is not good enough becasuse of the small 1/3 inch sensor and the 1440x1080 resolution which the Z7 produces.
Will the Flash XDR improve the signal that much that it will be good enough to use for broadcasting?

Thanks for your input guys!

I'm sorry but I didn't understand your point. Why would they be less glitches with the XDR on the Z7 than on the EX3 ?

What lens are you going to use with your video camera for wildlife?

Ofer,

The Z7 has no HD-SDI out and unless I am missing something here, the Flash XDR does not have a HDMI input to cater to the Z7.

Thanks for your comments guys!

Ronan,
I guess I wasn’t clear enough – my basic question is whether the Z7+XDR combo will produce quality which will be accepted by Discovery, NG, BBC etc.

Scott,
I am already using a few Nikon manual focus lenses and I am very happy with the results.

Weehan,
You can get the NanoConnect wich is a HD-SDI to HDMI adapter from CD and you can use the Z7 with the Flash XDR.

Production Management: Handbook (http://producers.discovery.com/pmd/PMDHandbook.nsf/#Directions%20for%20Registration%3A)

The address above is the Discovery Channel's production management site. You can register with The Discovery Channel, see guidelines, get forms, etc. I'm sure the other organizations you mentioned have similar sites.

Cheers,
Scott
