Finally plonked down the green stuff for an EX3 today. I'm having an issue with back focus though. The camera finds focus on my BF chart, zooms out, then finds focus again, but then it gives me an NG message and stops.

Anyone got any clues as to what might be happening?

Your focus card should be approximately 3 meters away from the lens. If you get the error, try moving the card slightly closer or further away, try adjusting the angle of the card or try adjusting your lighting. Needs lots of light to make it work.
