I recently purchased a RODE Shotgun Videomic and loaned it out new to an art student willing to experiment in video. About 4 weeks later the microphone was returned without its container, paperwork and with a broken mount and smashed cold-shoe fitting. I sent it to RODE with a full explanation attached expecting to pay for a repair and found that they were as upset as I was. So much so that they didnt have the heart to charge for the repair.
I imagine they would have replaced the entire shock mount and tested the electronics for performance. The local sales manager checked on the progress personally and made sure it was delivered to me as new with a replacement packaging. My friendship and loyalty was strengthened.
I can say that I am satisfied with the product even if I had to pay for such a repair but I was spared the additional cost and given excellent service.
