i am shooting a series of commercials with xl1s & gl1. the overall look should have a subtle film feel.

any opinions on shooting in frame mode vs. shooting in normal mode and using the magic bullet suite?

If you have the time the Magic Bullet Suite is the way to go. Rendering times can be very long depending on the computer hardware used.

i did a few test renders last night, and i was happy with magic bullet. i also do alot of 3d so i have a couple of dedicated rendering machines so all of my resources are not consumed.

the only undesirable effect i noticed w/ magic bullet was some frame jitter on the top of a translucent edge (the clear border of an imac screen). i assume that this is simply something i may need to tweak setting-wise. maybe it be the deinterlacing process in conjuction with a straight translucent matertial shot so close to x-axis?

i would post a link to footage of the issue, but focus would not be on the xl1s and therefore maybe considered off-topic for the xl1s forum.

With a little tweaking you should be able to render the scene without any problems. MB is the way to go for film look in my opinion. Look at many of the past winners from Sundance, many use MB. That’s a good enough endorsement for me.

i actually did some tweaking and the resolved the problem and i do prefer mb.
