Dean Sensui December 12th, 2008, 01:50 AM Dean Collins had an excellent series. Mostly about still photography but it's still a great resource for the how's and why's of basic as well as the most difficult lighting tasks. If you're doing anything from models to food, cars and jewelry, this is well worth a close look. Guy Cochran December 18th, 2008, 12:23 PM Any suggestions for a good DVD tutorial ( or books) on the subject of lighting for film and video. Someone suggested the book published by Lowel. Any others? Thanks- Art Thanks for the plug Dave! Here is the link for the DVD http://www.dvcreators.net/dv-enlightenment/ The book is Matters of Light & Depth (http://www.dvcreators.net/matters-of-light-depth/)" by Ross Lowell. It's a great read with excellent photos. I also appreciated Amazon.com: The Moment It Clicks: Photography secrets from one of the world's top shooters by Joe McNally: Book (http://www.amazon.com/Moment-Clicks-Photography-secrets-shooters/dp/0321544080) That's more for photography, however, just like the Ross Lowel book, it gives great examples of the "Why" in lighting. Not just the "how." Jonathan Plotkin December 18th, 2008, 05:35 PM DVcreators.net DVD called dv enlightenment. Pretty good. I just watched this again after a year or so and find it a very useful refresher for beginner/intermediate techniques. Covers a lot of ground and is easy to watch. Someone suggested the book published by Lowel. Any others? There is really good DVD by Doug Jensen: How to Setup, Light, & Shoot Great Looking Interviews (http://www.vortexmedia.com/LightingDVD/LIGHTING.html) It shows essential practical knowledge about lighting in interviews. Doug Bennett January 11th, 2009, 10:59 AM there are dozens of intro to lighting dvds, but for (aspiring) pros Bill Holshevnikoff Power of Lighting Series is the gold standard. This is the guy the TV stations, Arri lighting, B&H etc go for. Bill Hamell January 11th, 2009, 11:18 AM Run don't walk to your local library or Amazon and read Light, Science and Magic, it is not a cookbook of lighting set-ups, however it will teach what you need to know. Bill Mike Williams January 11th, 2009, 10:07 PM I bought the Doug Jensen one and really like it too. It does give you a great cookbook and a recommended barebones light kit. It was perfect for a total newb to lighting IMO. It also made me really want to get out and shoot interviews :) Which means it didn't suck the life out of me. Chris Swanberg January 12th, 2009, 06:53 PM I concur on the Interview Lighting video. A good starter video for those of you doing any kind of interview work. |
