I hope this is the correct forum for this.
My workstation has a single PCI-E port.
I'd like to expand that to several PCI-E ports, so I can add an SATA card to connect multiple hard-drives.
Question: Would the expanded ports have the same speed as a single port, or would they divide the total speed?
also, any recommendation on expansion devices??
thanks
Update: Yikes! I just found an "expander" that will turn one PCI-E slot into 7 PCI-E slots...for $4,000!
I guess I need to look in another direction to hook up firewire 800 or expand my sata connections!
update 2:
It seems my computer has only one PCI-E x16, but three PCI-E x 8 (wired as x4)
Will this allow me to hook up a firewire 800 card or SATA expansion???
update 3:
I found a firewire 800 card that only needs an express PCI-E x1 slot!
