I am using an HPX170 and am therefore operating tapeless. The instruction manual says that the ambient operating temperature for the camera is 32 degrees F to 104. However, in other instruction manuals and also advertising for this camera I have read that if you're recording tapeless, you can operate at colder temperatures. Is this true and what is the range? I'm currently filming in the Arctic. I have cold weather casings, but I'm wondering how long I can put off using them.

Thank you.

Don't know if this will help because you might be shooting in colder temps than I. I use a Canon XH A1 in temps down to +15F with no problems, and it uses tape.

If you search these forums for the phrase "cold" you'll find a bunch of posts on wintertime shooting. For my money, the biggest issue is heat cycling. Once your camera gets cold, keep it cold. When you get home, warm it slowly. It might actually thank you later.
