Loan my EX1 out it was returned today all setting were set to full auto mode. I had to rush to and event I set the cam to full manual controls tried to change the white balance and gain Message on screen can not proceed. I hope this is something simple a setting of some kind.

There must be enough white and enough light in your shot to balance. Find a better lit, white target, then try again.

Go into the menus and find the "Direct" menu and turn it off. When you have "Direct" turned on, you can only use the on screen functions, no switches.
