Macworld | Apple: No new products before the holidays (http://www.macworld.com/article/136528/2008/11/appleproducts.html)

Can we then expect new Mac Pros and iMacs at MacWorld? I'm DYING to see what the new Nehelem processor will do for rendering...

That would be my expectation. I certainly don't expect to see new iPods or iPhones at MacWorld as we just got new ones. Well maybe the big iPod is due for a refresh but I suspect Mac Pros and Snow Leopard will be the big MacWorld news next year.

Intel doesn't appear ready for dual socket nehalem (gainstown) Apple may get first shot at these new processors, but I would be pleased if there are new mac pros by the end of the first quarter.

I'm not buying until the new machines come out.

You can wait for a lifetime because there's always going to be new machines coming out. I say buy whenever you need a new machine.

While I don't DISAGREE Noah, twice now I've bought new Apples within 1 month of the announcement of the replacement (which in both cases offered something I REALLY wish I would have waited for).

My white 20" iMac 2.16GHz will continue to pay for itself until I can get the next generation Mac Pro. The MacRumors website has become a daily "pilgrimage" for me, especially the Buyer's Guide tab.

Most ppl upgrade sooner than they need to. Hardware upgrade should be based on solving a need that's costing you business or preventing you from running something that has a significant impact. Dropping a couple grand just for a 15-20% improvement doesn't meet my threshold. I like to wait at least until my system is 2 generations old or the software requires new hardware. I'll upgrade my G5 to Nehelem when I find myself doing more HD work. Sure I'd love a faster rig but I'm not losing any business due to a lack of speed.
