I'm unable to stay logged in. I enter my name and pass, it thanks me for logging in, then takes me back to the main page... but not logged in.

=(

More weird behavior: on the main page http://dvinfo.net/conf/ I'm not logged in (displays the login box in upper right corner), but when I go to a forum, I'm logged in.

Also, panels won't "stick" at next login (preference not memorized by server).

Not to mention the whole site barely crawling, veeery slow all day today.

Thanks for responding Chris. I've been away.
Display is 800 x 600 I know the site has been 1024 for quite a while and has always worked fine until recently. I can send a screen shot.
Actually I sent you an email with the screen shot April 20 which is when the problem began.
I can another if you like.Let me know.

I, too have been having this difficulty for the past month or so. I have to log in multiple times, and it has taken as many as seven times(!) to get the login to "take".

The "remember me": function no longer seems to work at all.

Very strange...

Just a shot in the dark: might be that the login issues are browser related? Or maybe related to certain versions of the browser?

It seems to work now all the time on my work PC which runs IE7, but will not remember me on my home PC running IE8.

I'm getting lots of Error 503, No server Available messages. Getting to the point where the board is unusable.

Lots of slowness and Gateway Timeout errors at the moment for me too.

Thanks for the heads-up; we'll get this issue cleaned up right away.

It's actually a lot better now Chris, so whatever you've done, it worked. Maybe you did nothing!

I'm reminded of a phone-in on Irish radio, the caller couldn't hear the presenter:

Caller: "I can't hear you."
Presenter: "Hang on". Pause. "Is that better?"
Caller: "Much better."
Presenter: "Well I didn't do anything."

FWIW, I just got the "503 Service Unavailable - No server is available to handle this request." error twice now (5:20PM EDT Friday). The first error came after making a post (athough the post did appear), then I got the same thing when clicking on one of the forums.

Well now...that was odd. But whatever the glitch, thanks for getting us back together here, Jeff!

We had quite a hiccup there from 4:45pm to 8:30pm CT but Jeff got us back in the saddle as usual (thanks Jeff!)

Glad you guys got it fixed, I have actually been having a hard time getting on for a few days but all is good since the last fix. Thanks to you and your team for being on the ball!

Hi Chris,

No matter what I set (eg "instant email notification") when I make a post, I never receive emails regarding activity on a thread that I am following.

Is it possible to have this fixed?

Here's a new one. From the main forum index I clicked the "View Forum Leaders" link at the bottom of the page and got a blank page with
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 86 bytes) in /export/sites/dvinfo.net/docs/conf/includes/functions.php on line 3964

Running Firefox 3.05 on Vista Home Premium 64 bit

Does the server set a time limit for staying logged in? Any other condition?

I always check the "keep me logged in" box - sometimes I stay logged in for a few days, other times it kicks me out the same day, totally erratic.

Cookies from DVinfo are allowed on the PC, and I am using IE.

Thanks,

The site speed seems normal right now, but after submitting a comment or navigating to another page I am sometimes getting a time-out error. A retry usually fixes it.

Using the latest Firefox on XP.

I seem to be getting emailed post notifications from the Audio and Canon XHA1 boards but not from the others..?

Also none of my posts have ever shown up in New Posts.

No cheers.

I'm logged in and trying to adjust the price in my post listed in the 'Private Classified' section and can't find the 'edit' button... anyone know what happened to it?

Thanks

I assume it's a new thing that we are told "this forum requires you wait 5 seconds between searches" as I've not seen it before. Anyway, there's obviously some glitch with it as after waiting a few seconds then searching again it says the message, then "please wait another 29 seconds"! then do it again and it says "wait another 129 seconds"!
Ghosts in the machine, or is it just my machine?

Search is unfortunately, really, really hard on the server. Due to the way our forum software implements it a complex search, especially several at once, can impact site performance for everyone for a significant amount of time. That's why the timings go up, the forum app is telling you that there are too many searches and performance is degrading, so it needs to wait. A good option if you aren't searching for posts by a specific user or in a specific forum is to use the site-wide google search box at the top of the page.

Gotta be quick else this problem will get me into a world of pain (again).

Seems that every time I do a refresh OR wake the pc from sleep mode, yet again I've been logged out of DVinfo.

Worse, it does it whilst writing posts, and God help me if I try to use attachments!

I write a post, send it, only to be told I'm logged out. Log back in, attach er, attachment, only to be told by the attachment thingy I've been logged out.

Log in on the attachment thingy and go back to my post, send it, only to be told I've logged in subsequent to writitng the post so the system can't handle my post.

Poof, post and attachment gone in a puff of smoke.

Most frustrating.

Thought it might clear but it's been nearly a month.

Using XP and IE 8

Help!

Chris, for that reason I always write my posts in XP notepad then copy and paste into the forum.

Keeps a copy in case the link disappears.

Cheers.

There's also another Google search box at the bottom of every page that will let you search either site-wide or the entire Web.

For any logout/login not-sticking issues, my first suggestion is to see if it happens if you try a different browser (IE/Safari/Chrome if it happens in Firefox, Firefox if it happens in IE/Safari/Chrome). If the other browser works but your favorite doesn't, you can delete all the cookies in your browser that relate to sites that match 'dvinfo.net' and 'www.dvinfo.net'. That should do it. Here's a blog post about how to delete cookies relating to a specific site:

4 Ways to Clear Browser Cookies for Just One Site Optimize It! (http://www.vertster.com/blog/2009/07/4-ways-to-quickly-clear-the-cookies-for-just-one-site-or-domain.html)

If those solutions don't fix the problem the issue is probably with another piece of software on your computer (sometimes security software can interfere) or with a proxy (if your ISP is trying to do some fancy traffic/speed management stuff).

Most helpfull.

I have for the last 24 hours (for the first time for about 3 months!) actually managed the seemingly impossible and stayed logged in from one refresh to another.

I followed the instructions in the link you provided some time ago, but no dice.

Yesterday I had the brain wave of actually clicking on the "remember me" box on the login (yeah, yeah, yeah, Doh!).

Job done.

Not sure whether IE8 or the latest version of Nortons was the original culprit, guess I never will.

For the moment it's "so far, so good".

Thanks again.

Is it possible to switch off that annoying Rode blimp ad that pops up when I try to change threads? It really slows down the site navigation, and sometimes I doubt if I will ever buy anything from Rode again.

Hi, I'm trying to make my first post in the "Private Classifieds" forum, and I keep getting the message that I'm not allowed to post there. I thought my account was activated and in good standing, so I'm not sure what to try next. Thanks for the help...Jem Moore

Welcome. I believe you have to be a member for a period of time before you can post on that section. No doubt one of the Mods will confirm. The reason should be obvious!

Access to Classifieds is granted 30 days after your DVi account is validated.

I did post this some days ago in another thread talking about problems, but think it may have been missed.

Following recent changes to DVinfo, the Google search box and more importantly, the contents of same, have shrunk in the wash to the point I can no longer easily see if I've made a blooper in the text.

The Search button isn't exactly huge either tho' I can still manage to hit it using a sniperscope.

Any chance of a bit of a blow up to save me buying yet another set of glasses?

Oh, BTW, as others have reported, yes, I too am getting the "Error on Page" message, tho' as it doesn't impinge on form, fit or function it is simply ignored, being stuck down there in the bottom LHS as it is.

IE8 and XP SP3.

I'm getting REALLY slow or half-dead page loads where its stalling out while trying to load up page ads. Its stalling out on server.bittads.com... Anyone else having this issue? Its really killing the speed of the forum

Jeremy, have you tried a different browser and/or a different computer?
I just tried with both my computer and phone. Everything works fine for me.
(But I still get the "Error on page" message in the bottom left corner of IE8, which has been reported earlier)

This isn't a problem as such, just a curiousity.

Being an essentially lazy person, I sometimes like to copy and paste from (say) a forum post and search in Google (e.g. quicly copy a model number, product name etc.). I used to be able to double-click a word to select if, rather than dragging, but can't any more. I would also do this inside a text box to select a word when posting.

Has something changed on the forum? It's almost like there's an ondoubleclick being trapped for some other purpose.

As I said, it's not a big problem, just a puzzle!

It's frequently slow to no load over the past couple weeks. The problems almost seem contemporaneous with the site redesign.

Works fine in Google Chrome! Maybe it's just me.

It's not just you. I have the same problem, with both IE and Firefox. Haven't tried Chrome...

If you wait a while after the page loads, the ability to do this comes back. But it takes a long time.
