I don't own a DVX100 but may have to connect a MM-1 Mixer to it.

The DVX spec says for the XLR line level : LINE : 0 dBu

My MM-1 Mixer outputs +4dBu.
My question is why is this line level 0 dBu and not +4dBu (Pro standard) or -10dBV (consumer standard) ?

Do I need to insert a pad between the mixer and DVX100 ?

i guess its to accomodate for the various mics which are available in the filming industry, from shotguns to lavs..
Its also there, i think, to compensate for the internal mic, as they run thru the same line (which is why u can only have one mic selected at once per channel, or 2 seperate mics for each individual channel)

Peter, I think your comment about various microphones may apply only if you use those XLR connectors with microphone levels (-50dB?). But I think they can also be switched to line levels to carry balanced line levels from a mixer for example. That's why I need to know if they are +4dBu or -10dBV.

Dany--you should be fine, it's not that big of a difference. The level adjustment on your mixer will be more than able to compensate. Peter--yes the DVX accepts a balanced line level input.

i didn't see anyone mention it, on the front of the camera there is a switch to alter the xlr jacks between line and mic level.

make sure you check those switches.
