Just wondering whether anyone can share any views on the quality of the FUJINON TH17X5 when compared to the stock x16 !??

It's noticeably sharper at telephoto and at full wide, with no real difference in the middle.

It also has a zippier servo.

Is it worth spending the extra $3k over the 16x? I think if you have a budget for upgrades, then yes. If things are tight then hold off.

That gives me a good overview of what I would expect.

I would agree with Justin's comments. I have not regretted putting the 17x on my 200.

Not only sharper, but also a lot 'cleaner' above 40mm. Chromatic abberation is less there and sharpness isn't lost at edges. I'd say you can use the 17x in the total range, while -for the best quality- you should use the 16x between 5.5 and +/- 40mm...

Worth the money.

OK, has anyone spent the money on the 18x4.2?

I'd like to put the 17x on my "B" camera and the 18x on my "A" camera. I don't think I can justify the 13x...

The 18x is even more expensive then the 13x. Choose the 13x for its incredible wide-angle. The 18x is still cleaner then the 17x, but with a rather similar range.

By the way, the 18x is now available with extenfder for about €15K.

Thanks Werner but it's seldom that I need a "true" wide angle. The 20% wider FOV of the 4.2mm versus the 5.5mm is probably all I really need. Plus, I'd like a lens I can just leave on the camera and have a premium lens at my disposal without needing to change up lenses. Mind you, if I won the lottery, I'd buy all three. But then again, if I won the lottery, I'd be looking at the 4:2:2 XDCam disc based system...
