I have been fiddling around with a pair of small cameras on a simple mount. I fitted the cameras to my Suzuki Jeep and took them off road. The resulting anaglyph can be seen on Vimeo.

Unfortunately the small thumb screw that adjusts the convergence worked loose so I ended up with a lot of toe in as opposed to the near parallel setting I started with. The cameras are only about 3 inches apart. The rig shows a lot of promise but I need to spend a bit more time playing with it to work out it's limitations.

I can now reveal that I used a pair of the new sony HD minicams to do this shoot.
Sony : HXR-MC1P (HXRMC1P) : Product Overview : United Kingdom (http://www.sony.co.uk/biz/view/ShowProduct.action?product=HXR-MC1P&site=biz_en_GB&pageType=Overview&imageType=Main&category=MultipurposeCameras)
The camera head is so small that it is possible to get the spacing down to 1.5 inches. While it won't replace rigs with full size or higher quality cameras for serious stereoscopic production it does offer a low cost option for a close spaced simple 3D rig.

I was privileged enough to be loaned a couple of pre-production prototypes to put them through their paces. I will be writing a full review as soon as I get time. They are probably going to sell like hot cakes as they are very versatile and offer pretty good picture quality.

Awesome setup. Looking forward to your review. When will this camera system be avaiable for purchase. Do you know at what price?

Thanks for posting the video Alan. I liked it.
I'm glad to see that there's finally an affordable hd-pov camera coming to the market.
