Does anyone use or has used this mic...?

Any suggestions as to better making the most of having it..?

Should I get another shotgun mic..?

I got mine new as a gift and wish to know as much as possible about it and it's use.

All help will be appreciate it !

AT 8035 or AT 835?

The one I got is the AT 8035, and based on it's specs should be very usable:

Signal to Noise Ratio: 72 dB, 1 kHz at 1 Pa
Frequency Response: 40-20,000 Hz
I understand it should focus at about 6 feet .

It all sound ok, do you agree..?

Mics are made to perform at a specific cost, with occasional exceptions.

I have not heard this mic, but AT has a good reputation of delivering good gear.

A more important question is whether or not you need a shotgun mic or a hyper or super-cardioid.

It appears that the AT8035 could be a replacement for the AT835B. They are the same length, same type and with similar characteristics.

One difference is that the new 8035 uses phantom as well as battery, while the 835B is battery only.

The 835B has been a low cost work-horse for documentary filmmakers for years. It is reasonable to believe the 8035 will deliver quality audio when used correctly in the appropriate situations.

While the very expensive mics can ultimately deliver superior audio under optimal conditions, it is interesting to note that many of the less expensive mics can be easier to use to get very good result

It is also interesting to note that the AT4049, AT4051A and AT4053A have been discontinued and seem to have been replaced by the 4049B, 4051B and 4053B. However, as of right now B&H only lists the discontinued models and not the newer models.
