Here is a bit of background for my the upcoming questions. I own a sony pcm d50 recorder but am leery of using it for foley sound efx for a film because I cannot record in mono. I can use a zoom h2 but it just seems to create stereo files with identical information on each track. Basically I am a bit confused about what recorder (either PCM D50 or Zoom H2) I should use for sound efx and why. Any help on sound efx recording or how I should use these units would be greatly appreciated.

I should also mention I will be using a sound devices 302 mixer and I have an AKG CK 93 mic which I power with the mixer and then connect to the recorder. I use final cut pro and sound track pro to add audio to the video.

If you use a single mic into the Sony you're not recording stereo. If its being feed to both channels through the SD302, its two track mono. Just mute or delete the extra track in post if you don't need it, or just send the sound out one side of the mixer into the recorder.
