Nothing like slapping Canon in the face. Where's the shame?
Someone stole the BB's famous poker cam line, "for shooting fine deep shadows and dork blacks." In Pana's latest Pro Video Newsletter, Pepi was quoted as saying that the DVX100 "camera has remarkable picture quality and it gives you rich, saturated colors with plenty of dark shadows and deep blacks to yield depth of field, more typical of a 'film look'. He was also quoted as saying, "Previously we owned Canon XL1s with wide angle lenses, XLR adaptors and other accessories. We were always...bothered by the bulkiness of the Canon cameras, not to mention that they did not have an on-board LCD monitor, built in XLR ports, nor a built-in wide-angle lens, all attributes of the AG-DVX100. When we realized that Panasonic was releasing this camera, we decided to sell all our former gear and buy the AG-DVX100s instead."
I don't feel that this insult to the Canon XL1 can be justified. For those of you who have used the XL1 and seen its footage would agree. I also feel Pana should have asked BB for permission in using his famous line. :)
The Panasonic MX1000/MX8/PV-DV852 was known as the poker cam, because it's slim and very long. The MX1000 is a Japanese Domestic, the MX8 and PV-DV852 are stripped down versions of it. The MX8 is PAL and the PV-DV852 is the North American version.
