A brief article on how those good folks over at Criterion are producing BlueRay versions of movies.

I love how their reference Blu-Ray player is a PS3. But I wonder why they originally decided to restore many of the films only in SD? Now they have to do much of the color work all over again. It's amazing since these are supposed to be some of the ultimate film & A/V buffs.

Having said that, and even though I swore I wouldn't do it, I am totally upgrading my film collection when the new updated films are released.

So, which Criterion titles would you most like to have on Blu-ray?

Kurosawa, if someone hasn't already done it.

I forget who Criterion exactly has. I'm a big German new wave fan, so Herzog and Fassbinder would be awesome in blu-ray, I should think.

Aguirre, Wrath of God and Fitzcarraldo in particular, would look awesome in blu-ray.

Again, maybe someone already did that!

Yeah definitely the major films by Kurosawa, Hitchcock, Inagaki, and Andrzej Wajda.

Also for me:
Ace in the hole by Billy Wilder
Time Bandits
The Rock
The Rebel Samurai Series
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
